Survival Skills

Program Description:

while working together in a small group, students will learn survival skills such as choosing essential items, building fires and shelters to “survive”.

Grade 4

Active Participation
• apply living skills – such as goal setting, conflict-resolution techniques, and interpersonal skills (e.g., playing fairly, co-operating, behaving respectfully) – to physical activities (e.g., games, gymnastics, dance, outdoor pursuits);
• demonstrate a variety of interpersonal skills (e.g., playing fairly, co-operating, behaving respectfully);
• follow safety procedures related to physical activity, equipment, and facilities.

Grade 5

Conservation and Energy, Developing Skills of Inquiry, Design, and Communication: formulate questions about and identify needs and problems related to protection of the natural environment, and explore possible answers and solutions
Weather, Relating Science and Tech. to the Outside World: describe ways in which weather conditions affect the activities of humans and other animals; explain how climatic and weather conditions influence the choice of materials used for building shelters
